Sub-Saharan Africa Data Insight (Q3 2016)

Posted on: 29 Nov 2016

Fundraising for Sub-Saharan Africa declined 70%, year-on-year, to US$1.1 billion in Q1-Q3 2016, as many of the largest funds in the region closed in 2015 and are focused on deploying, rather than raising, capital. However, African Capital Alliance reached a close for its fourth fund at US$570 million, including a US$85 million commitment from the New York State Common Retirement Fund—demonstrating that established fund managers continue to attract sophisticated LPs to the region.
