John Fadely is a partner in the firm’s Corporate department. He regularly represents international and Asia-based sponsors in the formation of private investment funds, including private equity funds, real estate funds and hedge funds, and also in the formation of joint venture investment vehicles and carried interest plans. He has particular experience in the formation of China-focused funds (including RMB Funds, which he has documented in Chinese) and funds investing in Japan, having practiced over the past eleven years primarily in Hong Kong and Tokyo, with additional experience in New York and California.
Mr. Fadely has also advised clients on the establishment and structuring of alternative asset management businesses and related fundraising issues, having represented both well-established and first-time fund sponsors, and on the restructuring of distressed funds platforms.
Mr. Fadely is active in representing sovereign wealth funds and other institutional investors in private funds, and has formed sizable co-investment vehicles for such investors with leading U.S. and European fund sponsors.
Mr. Fadely is fluent in Mandarin Chinese (including for the drafting of legal documents) and highly proficient in Japanese (Japanese Language Proficiency Exam, Level 1).
Mr. Fadely received his law degree from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
